Jesus often spoke of his Kingdom in the language of family. When we are baptized into him, we are adopted into his family as its newest members. When one member of a family is strengthened, the whole is strengthened.
This is part of the reason there are 100 “one another” commands in the New Testament.
“Love one another.”
“Be patient with one another.”
“Forgive one another.”
“Serve one another.”
When Jesus walked the earth, he modeled what it looks like to be a member of his family. He showed over and over that his family is marked by considering “one another” over oneself.
Now, through the power of his Holy Spirit abiding in us, he pours his covenantal love into our hearts– and then invites us to pour it out on one another.
